Home / Specialist clinics

Here at City, we want to ensure everyone’s individual needs are met and offer a range of specialist clinics.

There are a range of specialist clinics at City Sight and we always try and make sure your needs are met. Whether you are concerned about your or your child’s vision, please contact us using our enquiry form and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

Our clinics

Children under the age of 16 qualify for a free NHS eye test and it is recommended that all children have regular eye examinations. In the paediatric clinic, we assess children under the age of 8. It is never too young to bring your child.

We have specialist equipment and the expertise to test children of all ages and developmental and behavioural needs.

During the eye test, your vision (sight) and binocular status (how well your eyes work together) will be assessed by the orthoptist. Often, dilating eye drops are instilled to allow thorough assessment.

This is followed by an optometrist checking if any glasses are required as well as completing an eye health check. A glasses prescription and voucher may be issued if required.

Adults with binocular vision problems can also be seen here by our Orthoptists. We investigate how the eyes work together and where appropriate offer treatment*. It is important that you attend having had a recent eye examination as this will not be conducted at the appointment.

*Charge for this appointment is £25.00

There will be up to four students observing and conducting part of the examination as well as an examination from a qualified optometrist. You will receive the same high-quality care whilst allowing future optometrists to gain valuable first-hand clinical experience.

The low vision clinic is for individuals who have a reduction in vision caused by common eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma which cannot be corrected by conventional spectacles or contact lenses.

We offer a comprehensive low vision service and are able to provide a range of different optical low vision aids, such as illuminated hand and stand magnifiers and telescopes, at a small cost.

We can also advise on electronic aids, such as electronic visual enhancement systems (commonly called CCTVs) and provide advice on lighting and other techniques, such as eccentric viewing to help you make the most of your remaining eye sight.

AVOT (Advanced Vision and Optometric Tests) CAD (Colour Assessment and Diagnosis) test screens adults and children for colour vision deficiency.

The CAD test screens for normal red/green (RG) and for yellow/blue (YB) colour vision deficiencies. It can measure very small changes in a patient’s chromatic sensitivity over time, which can be used to detect and then monitor progression of disease and/or effects of treatment.
